PPU President's Letter

crest - web - small

I assumed the chain of office as President of the Loreto Past Pupils Union from Muriel Fitzpatrick.

The new officers for my term are:
Secretary - Ciara Freeney
Treasurer - Eda Byrne

My sister (1984) and I (1982) are both proud to be associated with Loreto. We both attended Loreto Abbey Dalkey and my daughters are continuing the Loreto tradition at Loreto College, St Stephen's Green.

I urge you to become involved in the Union and support its functions which support various charitable causes undertaken by the PPU.

There are many forthcoming events. These include the Annual Trip - an overnight away in Wexford at the Talbot Hotel on Saturday 19 September; the Mass for deceased Loreto pupils on Sunday 15 November 2009; the Annual Union Christmas Lunch in the Shelbourne hotel on Saturday 5 December 2009; and the Annual Retreat in the Spring of 2010. I would encourage you to make an effort to attend one or more of these events.

The work of organising the particular fundraisers has been proceeding, so we have plans for a quiz on Tuesday 15 September 2009 in the Goat Grill in Stillorgan, and an ‘Essential Talk on Women's Health' to be held in Loreto on the Green on Tuesday 13 October 2009 also promises to be of interest to members. All these dates will also be posted out in August 2009.

We plan to regularly update this information in relation to Union events on this Loreto website.

The Union also actively promotes the Loreto Past Pupils Union Benevolent Association which provides financial and other assistance to past pupils of Loreto who may be enduring difficult times. If you are aware of any such past pupils, help can be organised confidentially either through me, or any of the Officers of the Loreto Past Pupils Union.

In my term as President I hope to build on my predecessor's work in reaching out to increase the size of our database of Loreto past pupils, and their names, addresses and email contact where possible. Information can be posted into the LPPU office at: Loreto Hall, 77 St Stephen's Green, Dublin 2 or emailed to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. In conclusion, I hope that you will continue to support and participate the Union and its activities which give you an opportunity to engage not only with former school friends but also with the schools themselves.

I look forward to meeting several of you at the various functions throughout the year.

Oisine Hemeryck
President of Loreto Past Pupils Union
