PPU

Incoming PPU president, Oisine Hemeryck with outgoing president, Muriel Fitzpatrick

Loreto Past Pupils' Union was founded in 1932 and is one of the oldest in existence and unique in that we represent all Loreto schools.

The aim of the Union is to foster friendship among all past pupils. Our members are kept informed of activities and events through a post-out four times a year.

We endeavour where possible to have a representative from each school serving on the Committee which meets on the 1st Monday of each month in Loreto Hall, St Stephen's Green.

Events organised by the Committee on behalf of the Union are bridge evenings, table quizzes, carol singing and Christmas lunch.

Two very important functions are the Mass for deceased Past Pupils and Loreto Sisters and Union Day.

This Mass is held each November and we remember by name those who died during the year. Union Day is held in May and is a great occasion where we meet old and new friends, beginning with Mass and followed by a concert organised by Ms Jennie Reddin.

For the last number of years we have undertaken overseas trips and in 2009 we visited Baveria, staying in Munich and visiting the Maria Ward Geistliches Zentrum in Augsburg.

This year's 400th anniversary of Mary Ward's foundation of the Institute led to several celebrations which Union members attended.

We enjoyed a wonderful concert in April held in the Atrium of the Office of Public Works.

Our Committee, on behalf of the members, distributed over €30,000 to various charities.
