The documentary Mary Ward – Dangerous Innovator which explores the life, charism and contribution of the foundress of the IBVM and CJ is nearing completion and should be ready in early November.
Directed by Ciaran O’Connor of New Decade Productions (www.newdecade.ie) and produced by Sarah Mac Donald, a past pupil of Loreto Beaufort; it includes interviews with Srs Jennie O’Connell, IBVM, Elaine McDonald, IBVM, Mary Wright, IBVM, Orla Treacy, IBVM, Anne Mary Murphy, IBVM, Christine Leyser, IBVM, Gemma Simmonds, CJ, Christina Kenworthy-Browne, CJ, and Philip Endean, SJ.
It is the first documentary on Mary Ward in the English language and tells the inspirational story of this exceptional 17th century educational and religious pioneer. Focusing on two projects where Mary Ward’s Sisters are working today, 400 years after she founded her first apostolic institute in 1609, the documentary looks at Mary Ward's life through the lens of the 21st century. It travels between locations in Rumbek, Footage of the Sisters’ work at the coalface is interspersed with historical commentary and re-enactments from seminal moments in Mary Ward’s life.
