A Chairde,

We, on the committee, have been quite since my last letter.  We held our Race Night in The Goat on September 25th.  While it was very poorly attended, all who came really enjoyed the night.  This was due in no small way to our compere for the night, Doug Murray.  Despite the poor attendance, we raised a grand total of €3,300 for our charity fund.  Thanks to all who contributed.

We also held a Cake Sale on Sunday October 12th in Milltown Pastoral Centre.  The venue was lovely and we were made very welcome, had a lovely morning and managed to raise €860 into the bargain.  Many thanks to all the bakers and supporters.

Our next event will be our Mass for deceased past pupils and Loreto Sisters.  This will be held in Loreto Hall, 77 St. Stephen's Green on Sunday November 16th at 3.00 pm.  We would like to remember all those who have died during the last year.  So that we may include all their names in the candle ceremony, please let us have the names and school details of any past pupil, who has died since last November, as soon as possible.  Please call Emily on 087 2913028 or Marion on 087 2886361.  Families of the deceased are very welcome to attend on the day.  This is a very special day in our calendar and I look forward to seeing many of you on the 16th.

Included with this letter is a booking form for the Christmas Lunch on Saturday December 6th.  This year we will be holding the lunch in the Davenport Hotel, Lower Merrion Street.  The Christmas get together is always a very enjoyable occasion and hopefully this year the city centre location will prove convenient for many.  In recent years past pupils have used this event or organise class reunions.  Should you wish to organise such a reunion, please let us know as soon as possible.

At the lunch we will hold our annual Christmas Raffle.  This is a major fund raiser for our charities and we need as much support as possible to make it a success.  As you will notice, from the 2 books of tickets included with this letter, any of the prizes would be well worth winning.  We look forward to receiving as many counterfoils as possible in the lead up to November 28th.  You will be helping a very good cause and you may even win a weekend away.

Carol Singing in Grafton Street will take place on Thursday December 11th.  Our location, for this year, has been changed.  Due to a charity event in Brown Thomas, we have been moved to the top of the street.  Girls from Loreto Stephen's Green will sing from 12 noon to 1.30pm, when thge girls from Loreto Foxrock will take over until 3.00pm.  Loreto Dalkey will then sing until 8.00pm.  We hope the beautiful singing, as in previous years, will raise a large sum for our charity fund.  Make sure you let all your friends know where to find us!

I hope many of you will be able to join us at one of the above events.

A Chairde,

I would first life to pay tribute to Sr. Kathleen FitzGerald, who joined us on Union Day in May and gave us a wonderful presentation, on the archives.  It was greatly appreciated by all who attended and afterwards, poor Sr. Kathleen had difficulty in getting away, as she was inundated with questions.

Summer has passed and we are now gearing up for a busy term for the past pupils' union.  The first major fund raiser we have this year is our Race Night on Setember 25th at 8.00pm in The Goat.  There are still some jockeys and trainers for sale and we would appreciate any sponsorship amount, to ensure that this is a successful event for our charities.  Please come along on the 25th and enjoy a night at the races, while contributing to a very good cause.

Other Dates for your Diary:

We will be holding a Cake Sale in The Parish Pastoral Centre beside Milltown Parish Church on Sunday October 12th after 10.00am and 11.30am Masses.

The annual mass for deceased past pupils will be held in Loreto Hall, 77 St. Stephen's Green on Sunday November 16th at 3.00pm.  We would appreciate being informed of any deaths of past pupils in the last year, so their names can be included in our candle ceremony.

A group of past pupils is heading off to Budapest on November 27th for 4 nights.  Hopefully the trip will be a success and enjoyed by all who go.

This year the Annual Christmas Lunch will be held in The Davenport Hotel on Saturday 6th December.  Further details and booking forms will be included in the next post out.

One of our major fund raisers each year is Carol Singing in Grafton Street on Thursday December 11th.  If other years are anything to go by, this should be a special afternoon.

Dear Members 

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy  new year and hope you all had a very enjoyable Christmas.  We, on the committee had a very busy, but rewarding time in the lead up to Christmas.  Our evening with Neven Maguire turned out to be a great success, due in no small measure, to the very hard work done by Alison Byrne and Ciara Freaney.

Our Christmas raffle increased our charity fund by over €2,800 and the carol singing in Grafton Street brought inb almost €2,700.  For this, we owe a debt of gratitude to the staffs and students of Foxrock and Dalkey and of course to the Verdi 53 choir who contributed hugely to the evening.  I would like to thank all of you who contributed financially to any of the above.  Your support has made a huge difference to a great number of people.  

Enclosed, you will find a booking form for our retreat in The Tallaght Retreat Centre on Saturday April 12th.  Marion Eddery will be taking bookings.  If you wish to attend, please complete the booking form and send it, with the fee of €35 to the Past Pupils' Union Office in 77, St. Stephen's Green by Friday 4th April.  

Now, that the coffers are very depleted after Christmas and that there are more and more calls on our funds, especially our Benevolent Fund, we need to focus our attention on some more fund raising.

We are delighted to announce that our former President and very supportive member, Stephanie Graham, has offered to hold a coffee morning / cake sale in her home, 43 Rathfarnham Road, Terenure.  The funds raised will be used to boost our Benevolent Fund.  The fundraiser will be held on Friday 21st March between 10.30a.m. and 1.00p.m. and again between 7.00p.m. and 9.00p.m.  This is an opportunity for Loreto girls to help Loreto girls.

A number of people have suggested travelling abroad for our outing.  Therefore, this year we hope to visit Budapest.  The trip will take place towards the end of November.  We would hope to take in some Christmas markets and perhaps a boat trip ion the Danube.  It is envisaged that the trip would be for 4 or 5 nights.  In order to proceed with the organisation we would need people to register an interest in going.  If you are interested in joining the trip please contact me, by telephone, on 087 2913028 by March 10th.

I'm delighted to include with this letter some notices regarding other Loreto events:

The Hockey Club is running a Race Night to raise funds for the 1st Team to take part in the Club Europeans in June. 

The 72nd Annual Golf Outing will be held in Hermitage Golf Club on Friday May 9th.

The Loreto Flyers will be taking part in Cycle Against Suicide 2014.

All of these event offer opportunities to catch up with Loreto friends while supporting good causes.

The Annual Christmas Lunch will be held in Stillorgan Park Hotel, Stillorgan Road on Saturday Novbember 30th.  The cost is €45 per person.  A booking form is included with this letter.  In recent years past pupils have used this event to organise class reunions.  Should you wish to organise such a reunion, please let us know as soon as possible.

The Annual Raffle will be held at the lunch.  Books of tickets are available, if required.  Your support for the raffle, which is one of our major fund raisers, will be greatly appreciated.

We are delighted to have Neven Maguire hosting a cookery demonstration for us on Thursday December 5th in Loreto College, St. Stephen's Green.  Tickets cost €25.  A booking form,  should be returned with cheque payable to Loreto Past Pupils' Union.

A Chairde,

As this is my first letter to you since taking up office on Union Day in May, I would like to express my gratitude to the committee for selecting me for this role once again. I have a hard act to follow as, Alison  was a very dedicated and hardworking president.   I would also like to assure you all that I will do my utmost to fulfil the duties of president and promote the union and its objectives over the next two years.  As a long standing member of the committee, I know how supportive and hardworking the committee is and I would like to express my appreciation of its on-going support.

Forthcoming Events: 

Annual Outing:  This will take place on Saturday September 28th.  The cost of the trip is €55 per person and details are included with the enclosed booking form. 

Mass for deceased past pupils: This will be held in Loreto Hall on Sunday November 17th at 3:00pm. We would appreciate receiving names of past pupils who have died during the past year, to include in our prayers, if you feel we may not already have them.

Christmas Lunch:  Our Christmas Lunch will be held on Saturday November 30th in Stillorgan Park Hotel.  You will receive details at a later date.

Neven Maguire Demonstration:  This event will be held on Thursday December 5th and promises to be a great evening.  You will receive further details at a later date.

Christmas Carols:  One of our biggest and most enjoyable fundraisers will take place on Thursday  December 12th  in Grafton Street.  We are deeply indebted to the present pupils and staff of many of our schools who perform for us on the day.  We look forward to seeing many of you on Grafton Street to offer your support of the event.

Loreto Hockey Club News:  The hockey club returns to pre-season training on August 13th.  This promises to be another great hockey season as; the 1st team has already qualified to represent Ireland in the European Championships  in June 2014 – a great honour for the club.  We are waiting to hear the exact venue in Europe, but are looking forward to an army of past and present players travelling to support the team.  Thanks to all Loreto Past Pupils’ Union members who contributed to  our “Loreto – More Than a Name” fund raising campaign.  We would also like to see past members popping in to our new clubhouse on Saturdays, where they can be sure of a hot cuppa and refreshments.
